Community Consultation
This is a chance for two-way discussion between Midaynta Community Services and the community it serves. Midaynta Community Services is trying to establish formal dialogue to assist in its efforts to provide services acceptable to a wide range of interests and to deal with issues of interest to the community. We hope this public meeting will improve communication, dissemination of information, in addition to helping the community interaction. Discussion of issues in this public forum will serve as input for Midaynta’s planning of services.
Are you new to Canada?
This workshop is geared to newly arrived immigrants of any class, as a way to ease the transition to the new country. We will discuss issues relating to housing, day care, employment, and any other issue relating to re-settlement.
Social Services – Eligibility and Community Participation
This workshop will discuss the eligibility criteria for receiving assistance from the Ministry of Social Services and the Community Participation aspect of receiving assistance. Midaynta Community Services offers volunteer placement for participants of the Ontario Works Program. The workshop also discusses the responsibilities and rights of the participants in relation to the Ministry of Social Services.
Parenting Skills
Parenting can be very stressful especially when you are faced with resettlement pressures as well. We have devised workshops that will be delivered by Family Counselors and our Mental Health Coordinator to make the role of a parent less overwhelming.
Financial Rights and Responsibilities
This workshop is one of a series geared towards new and old immigrants. The workshop addresses the rights and responsibilities of newly arrived immigrants. Participants are given an overview of the financial rights and responsibilities of individuals in the RAP program and sponsored immigrants.
Educational System – with focus on the School System
Here is a chance for our community to understand the Canadian School System. The workshop focuses on the issues surrounding school suspension, homework help, volunteer work and school curriculum.
How to make a Refuge Claim
This workshop is for newly arrived immigrants who wish to make a refugee claim within Canada. We will discuss the steps needed to take to make a refugee claim and what to expect in the process.
Sponsorship Breakdown
Confused about how to sponsor your family members? This workshop explains the different types of sponsorship, documents needed to complete the application, financial and responsibilities of sponsors and address any other sponsorship questions that participants might have.
Community Consultation
This is the second Community Consultation meeting. It provides an opportunity to discuss the matters arising from the previous meeting held in March and any other new issues that might come up.
Your Rights and Responsibilities as Convention Refugee
This session is geared for Convention refugees only and will discuss the rights of a protected person and his/her responsibility in the Canadian Spectrum.
Citizenship Information Session
This is a Citizenship session and the workshop’s primary focus deals with the Canadian Citizenship test. Help and answers are provided for questions arising from filing a citizenship application.
Legality and Criminality when involving minors
This workshop is about youth involved in the legal system and how parents can help their children who are going through this process.
Women’s Health
This is a workshop geared to helping women take an active role in their health. We will discuss matters particular to women’s health, such as Breast Cancer Testing, Seniors Health, Pre-Natal Care etc.
The School Curriculum
This session is specific to the Ontario School Curriculum. The workshop will help parents understand what the curriculum is for different grades and subjects, what the expectations are, how to interpret reports and how they can help their children achieve success in the school system.
Seniors’ Health
This is a workshop geared to the members of our community who are in their golden years. It is an educational workshop on Seniors’ Health and covers topics such as medications, blood pressure, etc and provides information on agencies and services available to Seniors.
Your Rights and Responsibilities as Permanent Resident
This is an orientation as well as a workshop for new immigrants on how to integrate into Canadian society. It is a chance for new immigrants to receive information and ask questions.

This workshop will go through the eligibility criteria and the requirements for receiving the Canadian Child Benefit Tax.
